Elite Texas CB commit will reclassify to 2026, per report

Last month, Texas football landed a commitment from the No. 1 cornerback in the Class of 2027 rankings, John Meredith III. On Thursday, 247Sports reported that Meredith is set to reclassify to the Class of 2026 and will enroll at Texas for this upcoming season.
Notably, Meredith was ruled ineligible for the 2026 high school football season after transferring to North Crowley HS from Euless Trinity, a move that was later deemed an impermissible transfer for athletic purposes.
Meredith is the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the country per247Sports and the No. 4 overall prospect. It’s extremely likely that he joins the Longhorns football team this season, but his role is still uncertain. The Longhorns are absolutely stacked with talent and Meredith will have to work his way to SEC-level competition after missing the spring and valuable reps with coaches. All that said, Meredith is absolutely talented enough to compete for a job this fall assuming he does join the team.
Meredith stans at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds and chose the Longhorns over Texas A&M while also holding offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma and just about every other elite program in the country.
Texas football is set to start fall camp in just a few weeks, and the Longhorns are set to begin their season on September 5 against Texas State.
