ESPN is gearing up for the college football season to start, as K-State and Iowa State will get the regular season kicked off in just 17 days. Before that, media and fans are racing to get their predictions in for the upcoming campaign.
During an episode of ‘Get Up’ on ESPN this week, the topic of who was going to win the Heisman Trophy was brought up. Quarterbacks generally find their name on these preseason lists, and that was the case as Louis Riddick made his call on who he thinks will win the award.
“I’m going to go with Garrett Nussmeier,” Riddick said. “For Garrett, he is going to be the one in control. He is the one who is going to have the ball in his hands every play. He is uber-talented. He is simple smooth, makes great decisions and well poised in the pocket. He is in control of his destiny and I kind of like that. I like what he brings to the table.”
Nussmeier is one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy according to the latest odds from most sports betting apps, and a huge reason why people think LSU can get back to competing for national championships. Last year, he threw for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
In the offseason, the Tigers brought in talented transfer receivers Nic Anderson and Barion Brown, two guys who have starred at other SEC schools during their career.
As Riddick said, Nussmeier has a great opportunity to get the season off to a fast start as LSU travels to Clemson to take on the Tigers in Week 1. That game features 2 of the best quarterbacks in college football, as Clemson is led by Cade Klubnik.
