ESPN’s Chris Fowler gives Georgia’s elite defense great nickname

Georgia’s defense in recent years has been proud to adopt an anonymous label, as the unit continues to rise up the rankings in various statistical categories without a bona fide national star.
The Bulldogs sit at No. 4 this week in total defense following a dominant performance against Auburn where they held the Tigers to 6-of-15 conversions on third down and just 39 rushing yards — their fewest in a game since LSU in 2018 — in a 27-6 victory. Georgia also made an interception, which snapped Bo Nix’ streak of 253 pass attempts without an interception, which was the second-longest streak in the nation.
ESPN broadcaster Chris Fowler, who called the Auburn-Georgia game, called it the “No Name Defense” and noted the relative lack of NFL draft picks last year or expected next year.
The Bulldogs next test will come at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday against Tennessee in Sanford Stadium. Georgia has won three straight in the series.
