South Carolina football is a bit of an unknown heading into the new year. They come in at No. 13 in the AP Preseason poll, but can they prove to be a true CFP contender by year’s end?
It feels like the Gamecocks are at their best when they fly under the radar, but it’s also hard to ignore the immense amount of talent at their disposal. This is especially glaring at 2 of the more important positions in football: quarterback and edge. LaNorris Sellers and Dylan Stewart are monsters at their respective positions and will no doubt be fun to watch when their season kicks off this Sunday against Virginia Tech.
Ahead of Sunday’s opener, ESPN’s FPI (Football Power Index) revealed its prediction for each and every game on the Gamecocks’ schedule. The FPI has the Gamecocks favored in 8 of their 12 matchups, with less than 50% odds to beat LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Ole Miss. All of those games except for Oct. 25 against the Crimson Tide come on the road for USC.
Here’s a full FPI breakdown of South Carolina’s 2025 season:
- Aug. 31: vs. Virginia Tech — 70.9% chance to win
- Sept. 6: vs. South Carolina State –99%
- Sept. 13: v. Vanderbilt — 83.3%
- Sept. 20: at Mizzou — 56.6%
- Sept. 27: vs. Kentucky — 78.3%
- Oct. 11: at LSU — 43.3%
- Oct. 18: vs. Oklahoma — 70.8%
- Oct. 25: vs. Alabama — 39.8%
- Nov. 1: at Ole Miss — 42.6%
- Nov. 15: at Texas A&M — 43.7%
- Nov. 22: vs. Coastal Carolina — 95.4%
- Nov. 29: vs. Clemson — 60.4%
