Tennessee is set to pay a visit to South Carolina this Saturday, and the Volunteers are still riding high following their upset win over Alabama last weekend.

But Columbia has been far from kind to the Volunteers in recent memory, as they’ve dropped 6 of their last 8 contests at Williams-Brice Stadium heading into this one.

That was one of the many points ESPN’s Greg McElroy made in his breakdown of the game during an episode of his “Always College Football” show, and the former Alabama quarterback is actually picking the Gamecocks to pull off the upset.

“I’m gonna take South Carolina to win this game, 27-24, and I think they’re gonna do it on the ground,” McElroy said. “They’re also coming off a bye. Tennessee just went to war, and looked amazing doing it. But we’ve seen teams elevate and then come back down to Earth the following week, and I think that’s what’s gonna happen here.”

McElroy elaborated by saying that LaNorris Sellers and Matt Fuller will be able to find plenty of success on the ground, with him adding that South Carolina‘s downfield weapons will create enough explosive plays to counteract anything Tennessee throws at them.

“Tennessee linebackers cannot afford to miss in this game,” McElroy said. “Because that would keep the Gamecocks out of third and long, which is where Tennessee’s sacks live.”
