The first touchdown pass of Faizon Brandon’s Tennessee career was also the Volunteers’ first touchdown of the season. Tennessee leads FCS Furman 7-0 just a few minutes following kickoff.
Brandon connected with junior tight end Ethan Davis for the score, culminating a drive that took 2 minutes and 59 seconds off the clock following an opening 3-and-out for the Vols defense. It goes down as a 17-yard connection for the score.
Check it out below:
Brandon is a former 5-star prospect who earned the starting role after a battle with Vols returner George MacIntyre in fall camp. He looked great on that first drive, too — Brandon completed 4 of his 5 attempts for 43 yards and the above score. He also kept one snap for a 12-yard rush.
Don’t expect head coach Josh Heupel to open up the playbook for today’s matchup against the Paladins. Tennessee is set to travel to face Georgia Tech in Atlanta next week, which should present Brandon with a tougher challenge in front of a hostile atmosphere.
Obviously, this one is just getting started and there are many more highlights to come. Let’s see what the true freshman can do.
