Florida got a sudden burst of momentum with last week’s home upset of Texas, and now in Week 7 the Gators head to College Station with a clash against another program from the Lone Star State that’s been surging all season.

On the eve of Florida‘s clash in College Station against No. 5 Texas A&M, the 2-3 Gators named 3 captains who will try to lead them to their 2nd upset in as many weeks. The Aggies are undefeated at 5-0 and 2-0 in the SEC, so it won’t be easy in a primetime 7 p.m. ET kickoff on ESPN.

But Florida is putting its trust in those 3 captains to take on even more of a leadership role than usual, and that trio is headlined by quarterback DJ Lagway, who hasn’t had the season many envisioned for him so far. He’s thrown just 7 touchdown passes in 5 games this year and has also tossed 7 interceptions, with 5 of them coming in a Week 3 loss at LSU. Lagway’s QBR sits at just 60.2 in 2025, but he did engineer that upset of Arch Manning and Texas last Saturday, throwing for 298 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Another captain for Florida on Saturday will be senior offensive lineman Damieon George Jr., who spent 3 seasons at Alabama from 2020-22 before transferring to Florida for the 2023 season. The Gators’ 3rd captain for Week 7 will be junior safety Bryce Thornton, who has 18 tackles this season, 10 of them solo, and 2 fumble recoveries.

Florida will be leaning on everyone to try to pull that 2nd upset in 2 weeks, but it’ll be particularly depending on these 3 players to get back to .500 on Saturday night at what’s sure to be a rocking Kyle Field in primetime.
