Florida coach Jon Sumrall reveals injury to WR Eric Singleton Jr.

Eric Singleton was one of Florida’s big pickups in the transfer portal during the offseason. There was plenty of excitement for Singleton’s UF debut, but he ended up missing most of the Florida Atlantic game.
Following Florida’s 66-21 win over FAU, Jon Sumrall addressed the media. He was asked about the situation with Singleton.
“Yeah, he had a little ankle. I don’t know how severe. Tried to give it a go. We’ll see,” Sumrall said. “I’ll have more information probably for you all Monday. But, yeah, unfortunate. Happened really, really early.”
Singleton is in his senior season. When he entered the transfer portal, it was no surprise that he landed at Florida after spending his three previous seasons at Auburn and Georgia Tech.
At Georgia Tech, where Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner held the same position, Singleton had a standout debut season in 2023. He was named a Freshman All-American by the FWAA after leading the Yellow Jackets in receiving with 48 catches for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns. Singleton followed that up with 754 receiving yards and 3 scores for Georgia Tech.
Singleton played at Auburn in 2025. He led Tiger receivers with 58 catches, posting 534 receiving yards and 3 scores. Auburn wide receivers coach Marcus Davis joined Sumrall’s Florida staff as UF’s outside wide receivers coach.
Florida hosts Campbell in Week 2. The Gators will hope to have Singleton available in Week 3 for the SEC opener, a road trip to Auburn.
Singleton’s absence did not slow the Gator passing attack against FAU. Florida had 343 passing yards, led by Aaron Philo’s 275 on 16-of-21 passing. Vernell Brown III led the way with 6 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
