Florida Crystal Ball: Predicting every game for the Gators in 2026
By Adam Spencer

The Florida Gators are among several SEC teams that are entering the 2026 season with new head coaches. We’ve already profiled Arkansas and Auburn in this Crystal Ball series. Now it’s Jon Sumrall‘s turn.
One of the most-praised hirings of the offseason was Sumrall bringing in Georgia Tech OC Buster Faulker to run the offense in Gainesville. Will that move pay off immediately?
Today we’ll dive into all things Gators, but first, here’s a look at the other Crystal Ball articles we’ve written so far this season:
Now let’s get into it with the 2026 Florida Gators.
One Big Question: Can Aaron Philo be a top-half SEC QB?
I know Tramell Jones Jr. is also in the mix at QB for the Gators, but my assumption at this point is that Philo has the edge by virtue of having been in Faulkner’s offensive system. Both guys are pretty inexperienced, though.
Philo played in 8 games over the last 2 seasons at Georgia Tech, throwing for 938 yards with 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He completed 57.8% of his passes and also ran for 95 yards and a score while serving as Haynes King’s backup. Those aren’t exactly awe-inspiring numbers, but the potential is there.
For Florida to take a step forward from the Billy Napier era this fall, though, Philo is going to have to convert some of that potential into production. Florida has star RB Jadan Baugh coming back, along with WRs Dallas Wilson and Vernell Brown III. WR Eric Singleton Jr. reunites with Faulkner, too. The offensive line lost a couple of stalwarts from last year, but it should be decent.
That leaves Philo (or Jones) as the biggest question mark. The talent is there at other positions, so it’ll be up to the QB to take this offense to the next level.
Florida’s Projected Wins Total
Here’s what Kalshi has to say about Florida’s projected wins in 2026:
- Florida to win 7 or more games: 61%
- Florida to win 6 or fewer games: 44%

Game-by-Game Predictions
Here’s how I see the 2026 season going for the Florida Gators:
Week 1: vs. FAU (W)
Wait, wasn’t it just last year that a Group-of-6 opponent waltzed into the Swamp and left with a win? Well, yes, but that team is now at Auburn, for the most part. FAU is not 2025 USF, either. Florida checks in at No. 18 in ESPN’s Football Power Index. FAU? All the way down at No. 115. The Sumrall Era gets off to a great start.
Week 2: vs. Campbell (W)
Since the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, Florida is 5-0 against FCS opponents. After a wild 70-52 win over Samford in 2021, the Gators have stopped overlooking FCS foes. In their last 4 games against opponents from that division, the Gators have outscored their overmatched foes by a combined score of 201-31.
Week 3: at Auburn (W)
This is where it starts to get real for the Gators. Although the coaching staff is new and this is a road trip for Florida, many of these players were on the field last year when Auburn coach Alex Golesh and the USF Bulls pulled off the 18-16 stunner. Sumrall gets his guys fired up and they get some much-needed revenge.
Week 4: vs. Ole Miss (L)
Jon Sumrall would love nothing more than to pay back Ole Miss for what it did to his Tulane squad twice last year. The Rebels won 45-10 in Week 4 and then downed the Green Wave 41-10 in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Alas, Pete Golding has Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy. Aaron Philo and Jadan Baugh are a good QB/RB combo, too, but Ole Miss has too much firepower for the Gators.
Week 5: at Mizzou (L)
Ahmad Hardy should be back at full-strength by this point. Mizzou‘s offensive line is solid. Quarterback play should be much better with Austin Simmons than it was last year. The Gators lose a close one at Faurot Field.
Week 6: vs. South Carolina (W)
I’m just not buying South Carolina this year. Heading to the Swamp is a tough ask. Philo and the offense should be hitting its stride by this point. Florida stops a 2-game skid with a comfortable win over the Gamecocks.
Week 7: at Texas (L)
Florida stunned Texas last year in Gainesville. The return trip to Austin won’t be as kind. Arch Manning should be much better this time around than he was last year. Cam Coleman is going to be a problem for the Gators’ secondary. Texas should score a big victory in this one.
Week 8: OFF
Florida loses 3 of 4 heading into the off week, but the schedule doesn’t lighten up at all after the time away.
Week 9: vs. Georgia (in Atlanta) (L)
Playing the Georgia Bulldogs in Atlanta on Halloween sounds like a nightmare for the Gators. Both teams will be coming off their bye weeks, which means Georgia has the big advantage. Especially in Atlanta, the Gators don’t stand much of a chance in this matchup.
Week 10: vs. Oklahoma (L)
I’m high on Oklahoma this year. That defense is nasty — loaded at all 3 levels. If QB John Mateer stays healthy longer than he did last year, this Sooner squad is going to make it back to the Playoff and could do some damage this time around.
Week 11: at Kentucky (W)
I like the Will Stein hire at Kentucky in the long run, but for the 2026 season, I expect lots of growing pains. Sumrall has run a successful program before, leading Tulane to the Playoff last year. This is Stein’s first rodeo as a head coach after a successful OC stint at Oregon. The Gators get the road win.
Week 12: vs. Vanderbilt (W)
The Gators enter this matchup a disappointing 1-2 at home against SEC competition. But they’ll get back to .500 with a win over a Vanderbilt squad that I think takes a big step back this year without Heisman runner-up Diego Pavia at QB.
Week 13: at Florida State (W)
My colleague Spenser Davis is down on the Seminoles this year. In an article he has coming out on Friday this week (which you should definitely read), he projects Florida State will win 5 or fewer games this year. I’m in agreement with him on that, and one of those 7+ losses will come against rival Florida to close out the regular season in Tallahassee.
2026 Projection: 7-5 (4-5)
Florida reaches 7-5 in the regular season, which matches the high point of the Billy Napier era. Napier’s Gators won the bowl game in 2024 to improve to 8-5, and Sumrall’s squad will have the chance to do that as well. Not exactly what the Florida fans will be hoping for, but it is certainly something to build on for 2027 and beyond.
12-Team Playoff Berth? No
Earlier this offseason, there was some hype around Florida being a dark-horse Playoff contender. I didn’t buy it then and I don’t buy it now. In 2027? Sure. In 2028? For Jon Sumrall’s sake the Gators better be in the Playoff mix by Year 3 of his tenure. But for this season, finishing with an above-.500 record and a chance to get win No. 8 in a bowl game will have to do.
