Florida great Kevin Carter predicts Gators’ record in 2026

After a frustrating 4 seasons with Billy Napier, the Florida Gators enter the Jon Sumrall era. Gator Nation is hoping that Sumrall can turn things around, beginning in Year 1.
CBS Sports analyst Kevin Carter recently took a stab at predicting his alma mater’s record. Before his media career, Carter was a consensus All-American at Florida who played in the NFL from 1995-2008.
In Carter’s 4 seasons, Florida went 40-10-1 under Steve Spurrier, winning 9 games or more each season. Carter doesn’t see things going quite as well for the Gators this fall. Carter assessed every game on UF’s schedule and predicted a 7-5 finish.
As one would expect, Carter sees the Gators starting 2-0 with wins over Florida Atlantic and Campbell. He has Sumrall’s squad falling on the road at Auburn, but bouncing back with a home win over Ole Miss. Carter expects UF to get out to a 4-1 start with a win over Mizzou before running into trouble against South Carolina, Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma. He then has Florida finishing on a 3-game winning streak over Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Florida State.

A 7-5 showing would make Florida bowl-eligible, a step in the right direction after a 4-8 season in 2024.
