While Jon Sumrall has Florida‘s 2027 recruiting class among the top 10 in the country, his 2028 class has gotten off to a strong start.
Armani Strong, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound wide receiver from Chaminade-Madonna in South Florida, announced his commitment to the Gators on Sunday afternoon. Strong, who has 28 offers, is a four-star recruit on 247Sports and ranked as the No. 34 wideout in his class.
Strong spurned Miami, Notre Dame, Michigan, and USC, opting to instead pledge to Sumrall’s program. Of course, there’s a long way to go until 2028’s signing period, so the Gators’ challenge will be keeping him locked down until they can officially sign him.
Despite not coaching a down in Gainesville yet, Sumrall has worked to change the culture of a Florida program that won 22 games under Billy Napier and is just seven years removed from its last double-digit win season. His 2027 class is a talented one, headlined by five-star offensive tackle Maxwell Hiller, the No. 2 player in the country.
Florida kicks off the Sumrall era on September 5 as it welcomes Florida Atlantic to the Swamp. Its SEC opener is September 19 at Auburn, a program entering its first season under Alex Golesh.
