After dropping 3 of their last 4 games, the No. 25 Florida Gators are preparing for what will be a pivotal Week 10 showdown against the Oklahoma Sooners this Saturday at The Swamp.
Jon Sumrall is in desperate need of some answers on offense after his team was dominated by No. 2 Georgia in Week 9, with the quarterback position emerging as the biggest question currently facing the first-year head coach. Both Aaron Philo and Tramel Jones Jr. played against the Dawgs, but both QBs looked utterly lost against one of the best defenses in the nation.
With the season now hanging in the balance, Sumrall made a significant change to his depth chart Monday morning, with Gators beat reporter Graham Hall reporting that the quarterback listing now has Philo “or” Jones as the starter.
Per Hall, this is the first time all season that Florida has listed no clear starter at quarterback on its depth chart, suggesting Sumrall is holding an open competition in practice this week to determine who will start against the Sooners.

When asked about the current state of the quarterback position in Gainesville, Sumrall told reporters that “there will be no QB1 announcement today,” further indicating that the starting job is now up for grabs.
Whoever ends up starting at quarterback for Florida this weekend will need to perform much better than they did against Georgia. If they are unable to do so, then what once looked like a very promising first season for Sumrall could quickly turn into a major disappointment in the span of just a few weeks.
