Florida OC Buster Faulkner ‘sick’ over injury to WR Eric Singleton Jr.

Florida had plenty to celebrate in its 66-21 Week 1 win over Florida Atlantic. There was, however, some unfortunate news to come out of the game.
Jon Sumrall revealed that wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. injured his ankle. In his Monday press conference, Sumrall described Singleton as “highly questionable” for the Week 2 game against Campbell. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday that Singleton is considered “doubtful” for Saturday.

Florida offensive coordinator Buster Faulkner spoke to reporters on Tuesday. He said that no one took the Singleton injury harder than he did.

Faulkner speaks not only as Singleton’s current OC, but also as a former coach at Georgia Tech, where the wide receiver began his career. In 2023, Singleton was named a Freshman All-American by the FWAA after leading the Yellow Jackets in receiving with 48 catches for 714 yards and 6 touchdowns. Singleton followed that up with 754 receiving yards and 3 scores for Georgia Tech. Faulkner was Georgia Tech’s offensive coordinator both seasons.
Singleton, a headline transfer portal addition, was expected to be a key piece in the Florida passing attack this season. Florida’s new-look offense under Faulkner shined in Week 1, but SEC play is just around the corner.
Florida’s Week 2 matchup with Campbell figures to serve as a tune-up before the Gators hit the road to open SEC play at Auburn. The status of Singleton, who played his junior season at Auburn, figures to be a major storyline.
