Former LSU TE Arik Gilbert had one of the busier offseasons of players moving around the SEC.

He entered the transfer portal, and he then committed to Florida, until he backed off that pledge. Now he has officially transferred to Georgia, and enrolled in classes for the summer semester.

Asked about Gilbert’s brief commitment to Florida, Gators tight ends coach Tim Brewster shared his perspective.

“We never had him, so who knows,” Brewster said Monday. “Who knows what he’s going to do? I never like to comment on a player that’s not mine.”

Gilbert was expected to be one of the best freshmen around last season, and he largely lived up to the hype.

He was named to the Freshman All-SEC Team, as voted on by the league’s head coaches, and started 8 games. He caught 35 passes 368 yards and two TDs, while 24 of those catches resulted in either a first down or a touchdown. What’s more, 11 of the 24 came on third or fourth down.

The Gators boast plenty of talent at tight end, most notably Kenmore Gamble, and Brewster referred to him as a player who could potentially step up and replace some of the production that Kyle Pitts took with him to the NFL.
