The transfer portal is alive and well early in the 2026 calendar year. Players of all ages from schools of all levels are shifting spots like they’re in a game of Twister. The Florida Gators have seen it first-hand as they enter a new era under head coach Jon Sumrall. Unfortunately, on Sunday morning, they found themselves on the wrong side of it yet again.
According to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, former Florida defensive back Sharif Denson has committed to Ole Miss. The 3-year Gator tallied a combined 90 tackles and 7 tackles for loss over his past 2 seasons in Gainesville. Now, he will be part of head coach Pete Golding‘s first regular season at the helm in Oxford.
On Friday, Zenitz reported that Denson was expected to visit the Rebels and Miami Hurricanes. In making this decision, he has effectively revealed who he’ll be rooting for in Thursday’s College Football Playoff semifinal matchup between the 2 schools.
Denson was a 4-star prospect and the No. 26 cornerback in the 2023 recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ Composite rankings. His first appearance for the Rebels will come in their 2026 season opener versus the Louisville Cardinals. The game, being played in Nashville, TN, will be played either Sept. 5 or 6.
