Former Arkansas RB Rawleigh Williams III would like to be preparing for the upcoming 2017 season right now, but a neck injury suffered this spring has forced him to give up the game he loves.
However, this summer, he has landed a pretty cool internship for himself, as the Dallas Cowboys are letting him intern at their summer camp in Oxnard, California.
In an interview with NBCDFW.com, Williams said he’s grateful the Cowboys are giving him an opportunity to pursue his new goal of becoming an NFL general manager someday:
“The Cowboys are the best sports organization in the world,” he said. “Just to be a part of it as an intern and, hopefully one day, in a bigger role, it means a lot to me that they would even give me that opportunity.”
Williams said he misses his Arkansas teammates, but appreciates the fact that his injury wasn’t as serious as it could have been and that he can still chase his dreams:
“For that to change in the blink of an eye, it kind of rerouted how I wanted to get to my goals that I can obtain,” he said. “It’s been tough, but at some point I have to wake up and say, ‘Hey, I need to move on,’ because I still have a life to live and I’m still really blessed.
“The fact that I can walk and the fact that I can still live a normal life, that’s kind of what keeps me going everyday.”
Williams finished the 2016 season with the third-most rushing yards in the SEC, running for 1,360 yards and 12 touchdowns. Here’s hoping he lands a more permanent role with an NFL team when he finishes his degree at Arkansas.
