Joey Gatewood has selected his transfer destination. The former Auburn QB announced on social media that he will be transferring to Kentucky.

Gatewood announced his decision to leave Auburn in October after the LSU game. The redshirt freshman lost the Tigers QB battle to true freshman Bo Nix. Gus Malzahn’s decision to keep Gatewood on the sidelines in a goal-line situation appeared to be the final straw for the redshirt freshman.

Gatewood was a highly-rated 4-star athlete coming out of Jacksonville, Florida. The Bartram Trail product was ranked the No. 9 recruit in the state of Florida and No. 49 prospect overall nationally on the 247Sports Composite for the class of 2018.

After announcing his decision to transfer from AU, Gatewood made two trips to Kentucky and did not visit any other schools.

Gatewood appeared in a total of 8 games at Auburn. He logged a total of 32 carries for 176 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. The dual-threat quarterback threw only 8 passes, completing 5 for 54 yards and 2 TDs.
