Florida’s highest-rated signee in 2016 is heading back to his home state.

Antonneous Clayton, from Vienna, Georgia, announced roughly two weeks ago that he was leaving the UF program. Saturday he revealed via Twitter that he will be transferring to Georgia Tech, reuniting him with his former defensive coordinator, Geoff Collins. After two seasons at Florida (2015-16), Collins left to become the head coach at Temple and accepted the Georgia Tech position following the 2018 season.

In the departure announcement, Clayton noticeably thanked Collins, former head coach Jim McElwain and former defensive line coach Chris Rumph. He also acknowledged “amazing teammates and amazing professors” while making no mention of coach Dan Mullen or his staff.

A Dooly County product, Clayton was rated the No. 2 weak-side defensive end, No. 4 Georgia recruit and No. 27 prospect overall nationally in the 2016 class on the 247Sports Composite. In three seasons (2016-18), Clayton appeared in a total of 17 games for the Gators, recording 11 total tackles. He appeared in only three games last season, using the new rules to take a redshirt.
