Video: Former South Carolina player to run for U.S. Congress seat

Former Gamecocks football player Fran Person will be running for political office in South Carolina, according to a report from The State.

Person is attempting to become a member of the U.S. House of Representatives by contesting U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R) for the 5th District congressional seat.

According to his university bio, Person played for the Gamecocks from 2001-05, which would have put him under the leadership of both former coaches Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier.

He played tight end, defensive end, offensive line and special teams during his time with South Carolina.

And perhaps unsurprisingly, Person majored in political science during his time in the classroom.

Person worked for Vice President Joe Biden after his playing days were over, and recently held a position with the university that involved working with Gamecocks AD Ray Tanner on projects centered on the well-being of student-athletes, according to The State’s report.
