Former 4-star S Deontay Anderson burst onto the scene in 2016 and looked like he was going to be a star defender for the Rebels for years to come.

However, he sat out the 2017 season while the Rebels were under a self-imposed bowl ban. Now, though, that ban has been extended a year by the NCAA and Anderson recently decided to transfer.

On Thursday, he announced he’d be playing closer to his Texas home, tweeting that he will join the Houston Cougars in 2018:

That’s a big addition for the Cougars, as Anderson is a big-time playmaker. Whether he’ll be eligible to play right away or not remains to be seen, but the fact that he sat out 2017 certainly can’t hurt his case.

The Rebels have now lost key players on both sides of the ball, with Anderson following in QB Shea Patterson’s footsteps by leaving Oxford.
