The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to settle their backup quarterback position, and former Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs is right in the mix.

Dobbs is competing with Mason Rudolph for the backup to Ben Roethlisberger. But for Thursday’s preseason game against Tampa Bay, coach Mike Tomlin has announced that Dobbs would start.

Dobbs appeared in five games in 2018, and was 6-for-12 for 43 yards passing with one interception. He got his most action against the Oakland Raiders in a 24-21 loss when he was 4-for-9 for 24 yards and the interception. Rudolph was a third-round pick last year and is more comfortable with the offense now, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

The former Tennessee QB was drafted by the Steelers in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, but was only active for one game that season and did not play.
