Former Georgia and NFL quarterback legend Fran Tarkenton had some lofty praise for Todd Gurley in an appearance 680 the Fan in Atlanta Wednesday morning.
“He could be the next Jim Brown,” Tarkenton told 680’s Chris Dimino, who immediately asked for clarification.
Gurley amassed 293 all-purpose yards and four touchdowns in Saturday’s record-setting performance against Clemson. He rushed for 198 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries and returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown, swinging the momentum for Georgia in game that was close heading into the break.
Apparently, he caught Tarkenton’s attention.
“Todd Gurley did something I’ve never seen a running back,” Tarktenton said. “I’ve never seen a running back dominate like he did.”
“I only go back and I played against a guy named Jim Brown, the greatest running back that ever lived, there’s no doubt about it … Todd Gurley can be the next Jim Brown,” Tarkenton said.
Brown played nine seasons in the NFL and set records for single-season rushing yardage and career rushing. He was the all-time leader in rushing touchdowns, total touchdowns and all-purpose yards.
No pressure, Todd.
