A future home-and-home series between Ohio State and Alabama is reportedly safe.

According to a report from On3’s Brett McMurphy on Thursday, the Crimson Tide do not currently plan to call off their 2027 and 2028 games with Ohio State. They intend to keep the series as originally scheduled.

Though news of “status quo” might not seem like news, the decision comes amid a rash of other major cancellations between power conference teams.

Alabama has already canceled a future home-and-home series with Oklahoma State. Last year, the Tide called off a home-and-home series with West Virginia that would have been played in 2026 and 2027. East Carolina replaced the Mountaineers on the 2026 schedule.

The SEC, the ACC, and the Big 12 all require member schools to play at least one other power conference team in nonconference play each year. However, with the SEC moving to a 9-game league schedule and the College Football Playoff selection committee showing a preference for wins, regardless of who they come against, SEC schools in particular aren’t looking to add any more stress than necessary.

Alabama was scheduled to visit Oklahoma State and host Ohio State in 2028. In 2029, the Tide were going to host the Cowboys and play Notre Dame on the road.

“We are proud of the number of high-quality home-and-home non-conference games we have scheduled for the next 10 years,” athletic director Greg Byrne said last August.

The Tide have multiple power conference games on the schedule each season from 2030-34. They have scheduled games against Georgia Tech and Notre Dame in 2030, Tech and Boston College in 2031, Arizona and Minnesota in 2032 and again in 2033, and then Virginia Tech and Boston College in 2034.
