Gary Danielson discusses whether Alabama should be in the Playoff with a loss on Saturday

The Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs are meeting up in Atlanta this weekend with an SEC title on the line.
The Dawgs are the defending conference champs, but lost to the Tide in the National Championship Game. Could both teams get into the final four again this season?
During a conference call this week, CBS analyst Gary Danielson said he thinks it would be “laughable” if the Playoff committee didn’t include Alabama, even if the Tide lose a close game against Georgia on Saturday:
“I, for about 20 years, have been an advocate that the [conference] championship should mean more,” Danielson said. “But I have been vetoed on that belief of conference championshipsโฆSo Iโve been told over and over again that the committee is charged with, I donโt want to say ignoring the conference championships, but itโs only one of the selection choices and their goal is to put the four best teams in the [College Football Playoff]โฆI donโt think the committee can alter the precedent that theyโve been following the last four years of this and decide now to change their thoughts on who gets in. I donโt see how the committee could stand in front of the TV and say that Alabama is not one of the four best teams. I think it would be laughable.”
Considering what Alabama has done to teams like LSU, Texas A&M, Mississippi State and Auburn this year, Danielson has a point.
However, it won’t be a sure thing, and the Tide would probably rather win than have to sweat out another selection day.
