George MacIntyre explains why Tennessee’s offense found success against Alabama’s secondary

Tennessee dominated Alabama in a way it hasn’t in a very long time Saturday evening inside Neyland Stadium.
The Vols are 6-1 on the year after dispatching the No. 6 Crimson Tide, the third straight win over Alabama in Knoxville. And while the final score doesn’t suggest it, Tennessee was able to move the ball with relative ease all afternoon.
Vols QB George MacIntyre’s outing was not perfect, but he did a great job of facilitating the Tennessee offense while Jim Knowles’s defense went to work. Following the game, MacIntyre noted that Alabama played a lot of soft coverage — their secondary opted to give receivers some space rather than allow a potential deep shot — which is why Tennessee was able to find success, especially in the second half.
Here’s what MacIntyre had to say:
“Bama, we knew they were going to play really soft on the outside,” MacIntyre said, via Bama247’s Mike Rodak. “By soft, I mean, like, deep โ not really letting any shots over the top. I felt like their game plan was just to keep having [us] snap it again, snap it again and make us sustain drives. And I feel like, especially in the second half, that’s what we did.”
The Vols are looking good heading into next week’s matchup at South Carolina.
