The Georgia Bulldogs are making light work of the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. Kirby Smart’s team led WKU 49-6 at halftime on Saturday, so he put his backup quarterback, Ryan Puglisi, in the game. Puglisi took immediate advantage of his opportunity.
On 2nd-and-10 from the Bulldogs’ 30-yard line, Puglisi ran an option play with running back Bo Walker. With the defensive ends crashing down, Puglisi pulled the ball and kept it himself. Seventy yards later, he was standing in the end zone, having scored his first-ever rushing touchdown.
Puglisi fooled Western Kentucky’s defense so badly that he didn’t get touched on the play. The lengthy scamper has him as Georgia’s leading rusher through three quarters of play versus the Hilltoppers.
The Bulldogs beat Tennessee State 63-3 in Week 1. Georgia held the Tigers to 109 total yards of offense in the game. Smart’s defense has limited WKU to 105 total yards through three quarters. Gunnar Stockton completed 81.3% of his passes (13/16) for 234 yards and five touchdowns today, all in the first half.
Smart, Stockton and Co. face their first SEC opponent next week, when they travel to Fayetteville to battle the Arkansas Razorbacks. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Razorbacks is set for noon ET on Sept. 19 (ABC).
