A report this week stated Makiya Tongue was set to enter the NCAA transfer portal. On Wednesday, the Georgia wide receiver confirmed his plans to transfer from Kirby Smart’s program and finish his college football career elsewhere.

“I want to say thank you to Coach Smart, Coach Hank (Cortez Hankton) and everyone at UGA for giving me an opportunity to play at such a great school and program,” Tongue wrote in a tweeted statement. “But after long talks with my family and coaches, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal and finish my education and football career elsewhere. No interviews, please. Thank you.”

Tongue was a member of Georgia’s 2019 signing class. Out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tongue was rated 4-stars, the No. 9 ATH, No. 12 recruit in Louisiana and No. 196 prospect overall nationally in the class on the 247Sports Composite. He had 25 scholarship offers, including Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Ole Miss, Tennesee and Texas A&M.

Tongue appeared in three games last season. He has not yet played this season and has not traveled to any road games according to Dawgs247. He did not record any receptions in his UGA career.
