Greg McElroy makes many predictions on college football throughout the year, and that isn’t going to change in a monster Week 5. There are some massive matchups involving top-15 teams.
While the game in Fayetteville between Notre Dame and Arkansas doesn’t fit that billing, McElroy thinks it can steal some attention regardless.
The Razorbacks are coming off a brutal loss to Memphis in which they blew an 18-point lead. Despite that result, McElroy thinks the Razorbacks are going to shock the world and pull the upset against the Fighting Irish.
“The pick might surprise you, but I am taking the Arkansas Razorbacks,” McElroy said this week on his show, Always College Football. “I think their quarterback is the most dynamic weapon in this game, and I fully expect this game to be a shootout from start to finish.”
That quarterback McElroy is talking about is Taylen Green, who is capable of hurting a defense with both his arm and his legs. Through 4 games, he has thrown for 1,191 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also rushing for 360 yards and 2 more scores.
The Razorbacks are extremely close to being undefeated. In both of their losses, they were driving down the field to take the lead, only to fumble the ball. Last week, they were cruising against Memphis, up 28-10 at one point before losing the game.
The Fighting Irish picked up their first win of the season against Purdue last weekend. Freshman quarterback CJ Carr is showing he has a chance to be special at the position, as he has shown tremendous poise and the ability to attack down the field.
Notre Dame has no margin for error, as the two losses to Texas A&M and Miami have put the team in a situation where it has to run the table to have a chance at making the College Football Playoff.
Kickoff is set for noon ET (ABC) on Saturday. The Razorbacks are a 4.5-point underdog, per BetMGM.
