ESPN’s Greg McElroy believes there’s a clear favorite to win the SEC in 2025: Texas.
McElroy broke down the Longhorns during the latest episode of the Always College Football podcast.
“They are a National Championship contender,” McElroy said. “Assuming Arch Manning is what we expect him to become. Assuming the wide receivers are as good as we expect them to be. Assuming the offensive line is not a liability, and I don’t think it will be.
“All 3 levels defensively, I feel really confident in what they have coming back here in [2025]. So they are a National Championship contender and probably the team to beat right now in the Southeastern Conference.”
Here’s a clip from McElroy’s comments:
Arch Manning is a big reason why there’s so much optimism around the Longhorns this fall. The former 5-star prospect is set to begin his first season as Texas’s starting quarterback this year. He’s set to replace Quinn Ewers, who led Texas to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinals in his final 2 years with the program.
Vegas more or less agrees with McElroy’s assessment. Texas is the favorite to win the SEC at +250, according to the latest odds from BetMGM. The Longhorns are also +500 to win the national title this season.
