Georgia vs. Auburn proudly calls itself The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry. Georgia coach Kirby Smart first experienced the rivalry in 1995 as a Bulldog defensive back. As UGA’s head coach since 2016, Smart has a 9-1 record in the rivalry, with the only loss coming against Auburn in 2017. Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze got his first taste of the rivalry in 2023 after taking the AU job and is 0-2 so far against Smart and the Dawgs.
Last season, Georgia won 31-13 in Athens to extend its winning streak in the rivalry to 8 games. This season, both teams have new starting quarterbacks leading the way.
Gunner Stockton has Georgia sitting at 4-1. UGA got off to a 3-0 start before stumbling at home to Alabama. The Bulldogs bounced back with a 35-14 home win over Kentucky. This is the second SEC road game for Georgia, having previously won 44-41 at Tennessee.
Jackson Arnold’s Auburn squad is 3-2 heading into Saturday’s showdown. Both of AU’s losses have come in SEC play, with the Tigers suffering back-to-back 1-score defeats to Oklahoma (24-17) and Texas A&M (16-10). Freeze’s squad is 0-2 in SEC play.
