Hugh Freeze characterizes how he manages juggling the quarterbacks

Hugh Freeze has stuck to his 2-quarterback system through 7 games, and he’s hoping that plan will start working out better for Auburn through the backstretch of the season.

Freeze relies on Payton Thorne to be the main passer, while he uses Robby Ashford in the run package.

On Monday, Freeze broke down how he’s juggled having 2 quarterbacks and how he manages to instill confidence into them.

“They’re doing 2 different things, truthfully, in the packages,” Freeze said. “Whether that’s smart or not, I don’t know. We gotta figure that out. We obviously think it is or have thought it is. But when they’re doing 2 different things, I don’t think that’s an issue. They’re really confident in what they do. Here’s your package, get really confident with that. It’s not like we’re asking one to go do the whole game plan right now, because there’s 2 distinctively different packages.”

Freeze is counting on his quarterbacks to continue coming into their own over the final 5 games of the season. The Tigers are looking to get bowl eligible, and they have a good chance to get there with games against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Arkansas on the horizon.
