As Auburn coach Hugh Freeze is preparing for a make-or-break third season on the Plains, he’s also been dealing with prostate cancer.

Freeze announced that diagnosis earlier this spring. At his press conference on Wednesday morning, Freeze gave an update on how he’s been feeling with the illness.

“I feel as good for this camp as I probably have in years,” Freeze said. “I don’t think anything about the health right now. Whether that’s right, wrong or indifferent. I talk to docs, I had 3 of them text me yesterday, they’re awesome. I’ve got a great team around me … I don’t feel sick.

“My wife’s got me taking all kind of natural things that supposedly may cure prostate cancer. We hope it does, we’ll re-check it in January and see where things are.”

Freeze told reporters back in the spring that his form or prostate cancer does not require immediate surgery. However, it’s possible Freeze will undergo surgery as part of a treatment plan after the 2025 season comes to an end.

On the field, Auburn is hoping to take a big step forward this season. The Tigers are 11-14 overall in 2 season with Freeze at the helm, but the 2025 campaign brings new optimism for the program. Auburn is expected to have an excellent defense once again and will hope to have adequate quarterback play this fall.

Auburn opens the 2025 season with Baylor on Aug. 29.
