Hunter Yurachek says he understands ‘fan frustration,’ preaches patience for Arkansas football

The Arkansas Razorbacks didn’t exactly invigorate their fanbase when they hired Ryan Silverfield as their head football coach. Unfortunately, Silverfield’s first impression hasn’t done much to change their perception, either.
Following the Razorbacks’ struggles, Arkansas athletic director Hunter Yuracheck is asking fans for patience, according to On3’s Brett McMurphy.
“I understand the fan frustration and the spotlight on football. I am frustrated as well. But at the same time, I think any fair evaluation has to include what is actually happening inside the program,” Yuracheck said. “That work began last year and is happening every single day… Coach Silverfield and I have a plan. We believe in that plan, and we are committed to doing what it takes to build a championship-caliber program at Arkansas.”
Yuracheck admitted the Razorbacks’ football program isn’t where it should be in part because of his own mistakes.
“Looking back, I would have established a general manager-type position earlier,” Yurachek told McMurphy. “College football changed incredibly quickly with NIL, the transfer portal and now revenue sharing. We were asking the head coach and his staff to manage responsibilities that increasingly require an entirely different level of specialization.”
Arkansas (1-2, 0-1 SEC) hosts Tulsa on Saturday night (8:00 p.m. E.T., SEC Network+).
