Edgerrin Cooper is having a breakout season for Texas A&M this season.

The junior linebacker has logged 45 tackles, 6 sacks and a forced fumble on the season, emerging as one of the Aggies’ biggest pieces on defense.

In his weekly press conference Monday, Jimbo Fisher had high praise for Cooper’s play this season.

“His eyes. He’s looking at the right things and is triggering on the right things,” Fisher said. “He’s playing with a lot more consistency.”

Fisher explained that Cooper’s breakout season, stating that it has come with growth and confidence in himself.

“He’s trusting himself,” Fisher said. “The hardest person for a player to trust is himself. Guys have to grow into that… He is doing a great job with his eyes. He can really run, and he will hit you.”

Max Wright has seen Cooper’s growth first hand, and the Aggies’ tight end had high praise for him.

“Coop has always been a freak athlete,” Wright said. “He is in the backfield, getting past guys before they are even out of their stances.”

Complimenting Cooper in the linebacker spot is Taurean York. Together, the 2 are able to cause problems for opposing offenses.

“They’ve really complimented each other, and knock on wood, they’ll continue to do so over the last five games,” Fisher said.

Texas A&M is looking to get back into the win column this week after losing the past 2 games against Alabama and Tennessee. The Aggies had a bye week to prepare, and now they look ahead to South Carolina.
