Jireh Edwards receives injury update ahead of Kentucky bout

Jireh Edwards was termed as a “game-time decision” when the updated injury report was released at 2 p.m. ET on Saturday, about an hour and a half before No. 12 Alabama was to kick off in its SEC opener at Kentucky.
Edwards, a freshman defensive back who provides depth in the Crimson Tide’s stacked secondary, has been dealing with a right arm injury that kept him out of last week’s season opener against East Carolina.
Despite missing the Week 1 game, Edwards did warm up before the matchup, then took a seat as Alabama rolled to the 48-10 victory.
Another positive sign in Edwards’ attempt to get back on the playing field came Monday, when head coach Kalen DeBoer met with reporters in the leadup to Saturday’s Week 2 showdown in Lexington.
DeBoer said that Edwards would be back in the lineup “very soon,” a strong indication that Edwards’ arm injury isn’t feared to be a long-term issue. But now, 5 days later, Edwards’ status was still in doubt, as Alabama will apparently have to wait right up until kickoff to find out if its defensive backfield will or won’t be shorthanded against that high-octane Kentucky offense.
The Alabama-Kentucky game will be the SEC opener for both teams, as the spotlight arrives in Lexington for the matchup on ABC. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about which team has the better odds to come away with the Week 2 victory:
