Joe Burrow is expected to miss “several weeks” of training camp with a calf injury, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Friday.
Taylor made that announcement 1 day after Burrow was carted off the field due to the injury. Cincinnati began training camp this week in preparation for the 2023 season.

Taylor said he’s confident in the work Burrow was able to accomplish this month before suffering the injury.
“Joe got more days this July than he’s ever had in the NFL,” Taylor said. “So I feel really good about the progress we’ve made during those July practices with Joe.”
It’s unfortunate news for Burrow, who has been relatively durable since tearing his ACL midway through his rookie season in 2020. He has started 16 games in each of the past 2 seasons for the Bengals.
It’s still too early to say whether or not this injury will threaten the start of Burrow’s 2023 campaign. The Bengals regular-season opener is set for Sept. 10 against the Browns.
When healthy, Burrow is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He has thrown for more than 4,400 yards in each of the past 2 seasons and finished 4 in the MVP voting last season.
Burrow is entering his 4th season out of LSU. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
