One of the things people love about Joe Burrow is he regularly finds fuel to motivate him. And coming off an ACL injury that ended his rookie season prematurely, Burrow has identified what will help him come back to the Cincinnati Bengals.

His father, Jimmy, told Jacques Doucet of WAFB that Burrow is on track according to his doctors and medical staff, however, he’s not yet 100 percent.

“He may not be at the start of training camp, but you know his personality,” Jimmy Burrow said. “That he’s going to do everything possible to play that first game. In his mind, it is a no-brainer that he’ll be out there. The reports started coming around that he might not be ready for this coming year. I think Joe always finds things to put a little chip on his shoulder and that’s just another one.”

According to the Bengals’ team site and a podcast Burrow was on in April with Cris Collinsworth, Burrow told Collinsworth he’d been throwing for more than a week from a drop as well as play-action passes. The original timeline was a nine-month rehab from his Dec. 2 reconstructive knee surgery and setbacks could still loom, but he was confident even then he’ll play Opening Day.
