Prior to the 2025 college football season, many analysts proclaimed Arch Manning as the eventual Heisman Trophy winner and the soon-to-be No. 1 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. Roughly 15 months later, Manning is still with the Texas Longhorns, and his play is being dissected much more intensely than ever before.

Following Texas’ loss to Oklahoma, Paul Finebaum said Manning was “not the elite player” folks had believed. FOX commentator Joel Klatt essentially agreed with Finebaum’s take on Monday morning, claiming the Longhorns’ offense was stronger under Manning’s predecessor.

“[Texas was] better on offense with Quinn Ewers. Arch is just playing okay. And actually, there’s some things that are worrisome,” Klatt said. “He doesn’t process information all that quickly. His eyes tend to be in the wrong spot at times.”

“There are some brilliant throws, so you see the ceiling of Arch,” Klatt continued. “But then the floor is really low. And because of that, the entire offense, their floor becomes very, very low.”

Texas has not scored more than 24 points against a Power 4 foe this season. Beyond their impressive fourth quarter vs. Ohio State, the Longhorns have scored just 47 points in 11 quarters of competition with Power 4 teams.

Steve Sarkisian’s defense can take the team far, but only if the offense doesn’t get in the way. Texas faces a reeling Florida team on Saturday (12:00 p.m. E.T., ABC).
