The No. 22-ranked Tennessee Volunteers made a massive statement last weekend with their 45-26 beatdown of the Syracuse Orange, and a massive part of their success was the arrival of their new quarterback, Joey Aguilar.
The former App State QB made a quick stop at UCLA before taking over for former star gunslinger Nico Iamaleava following the latter’s departure due to an NIL dispute with the school, and immediately clicked in head coach Josh Heupel‘s high-octane offense.

Now, he’ll be making his first-ever start on Rocky Top at the iconic Neyland Stadium against the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, and the Vols’ new signal caller shared an emotional moment with his family while walking into the stadium during his first-ever Vol Walk.
It’s no secret how important family has always been for Aguilar, and the former UCLA starter’s loved ones showed out in force to support him in his first-ever home start as the leader of the Tennessee offense.
His 82-year-old grandmother even made the long trip to witness the occasion, and the joy on her face was very apparent when she saw her grandson leading his teammates into Neyland.
The two shared a very heartfelt embrace before Aguilar continued walking towards the stadium in one of the best feel-good moments of the early season.
Aguilar’s grandmother, along with the rest of his family that made the trip, will all be watching this afternoon as Aguilar looks to light up the scoreboard once again under center for the Vols.
