John Parker Wilson called it important for Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer to land a couple of sitting head coaches to join his staff in South Alabama’s Kane Wommack and Buffalo’s Maurice Linguist.

Wiilson shared his thoughts during a segment on WJOX’s “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning.”

“When you can get those people around you, it only elevates what you’re trying to do,” Wilson said. “Widens your knowledge, widens your net of who you can go recruit. We saw Coach Saban do that a lot. Where guys would come back to Alabama and be an analyst or some kind of role to be a part of the program and these guys are actually going to be on the field and have a chance to impact these players.”

Wilson said he’s excited to see the product on the field.

“This offense is fun to watch, it’s creative, it’s going to be ever-changing, so as an offensive player, I’d be super excited to be in a system like this,” Wilson said.

Greg McElroy asked Wilson if there was a player outside of Caleb Downs who was a notable loss for Alabama. Wilson replied with Isaiah Bond.

“He was I think one of the first ones in the portal and emerged as a really talented receiver for Alabama,” he said. “Had a pretty big play against Auburn, so you think if nothing else, just to be around Alabama and continue what he was doing, and continue getting better. He wasn’t the No. 1 guy to start, kind of emerged into that role, along with (Jermaine) Burton. I’m not surprised. I think the situation that we’re in is not good.”

Wilson wondered if Michigan would face a similar situation as Alabama in the coming weeks, and said college football needs to fix some of these issues, but he’s not sure what the answers are.
