No. 16 Vanderbilt is looking to add another top-notch victory to its College Football Playoff résumé in Week 6 on the road against No. 10 Alabama.
Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel is in Tuscaloosa for the SEC showdown and he’s repping a Diego Pavia jersey in support of Vanderbilt’s quarterback. Manziel took to social media to share his observations on the game.
The ex-Texas A&M star criticized Vanderbilt’s defense, which gave up a pair of touchdown passes to Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson through the first 3 quarters. In the second quarter, Simpson tossed a 14-yard touchdown to Ryan Williams and a 27-yard score to Germie Bernard.
“Vandy how many times are you going to run Cover 2 and get smoked?” Manziel wrote on social media. “Everything else is going so good and Simpson is just picking you apart.”
Vanderbilt’s defense entered the game with the No. 31 unit in the nation for points allowed (17.2). The explosive Commodores are being contained by the Crimson Tide, as they’re well below their 49.0 points per game (4th nationally).
