Jon Sumrall provides encouraging injury updates for Vernell Brown III, Eric Singleton
The Florida Gators (4-1, 2-1 SEC) are regrouping this week after their 45-17 loss to the Missouri Tigers in Week 5. Running back Jadan Baugh struggled to get things going against Mizzou’s tough defensive front, and quarterback Aaron Philo failed to handle the offensive load.
Part of the reason Philo was unable to elevate his play in Columbia was the absence of wide receiver Vernell Brown III. The sophomore was Florida’s leading wideout through four games, but missed the Tiger matchup due to a low-knee sprain. On Wednesday, Sumrall spoke on the status of Brown and fellow receiver Eric Singleton Jr.
“(Brown) looks a lot better… he seems really optimistic,” Sumrall said. “Like I’ve told you guys, a lot of it is just his confidence and if he’s able to go play. He seemed a lot more confident today… so, that’s encouraging. And then Eric Singleton today ran 22-plus MPH. Both of those guys are trending upward right now.”
The Gators face the struggling South Carolina Gamecocks this weekend before embarking upon the unenviable task of battling the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs in back-to-back games. Florida and South Carolina kick off at 12:45 p.m. E.T. on Saturday (SEC Network).
