New Florida coach Jon Sumrall coached his final game at Tulane on Saturday afternoon, a 41-10 loss to Ole Miss in the first round of the College Football Playoff – a result that put a momentary damper on Sumrall’s stellar 2-year run with the Green Wave that saw him go 20-8 and win the American Conference title.

Sunday, in his first official day as the Gators coach, Sumrall shared a farewell note to Tulane – thanking all involved in the success the Green Wave earned.

“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve as the head football coach at Tulane University the last two years. The players, staff and fans have provided us with experiences and memories that will last a lifetime,” Sumrall wrote. “Although disappointed in the outcome of our game yesterday I am proud of the 2025 team … Championship teams walk together forever and 2025 Tulane Football was a special group. To the Tulane Football players… I love you forever and am always only a phone call away.”

Sumrall also wrote about his desire to deliver championship football to Florida – a program with 3 national titles but with only 1 winning season in the last 5.

“I cannot wait to invest in the lives of our players at Florida on and off the field,” Sumrall wrote. “We are eager to connect with the Gainesville community and give back. You are going to get everything we have every single day.”
