Jon Sumrall hires Tulane OL coach as Florida TE coach, per report

Jon Sumrall has reportedly settled on a tight ends coach for his initial staff at Florida. It’s a familiar face that’s been with him over the past several years.

Evan McKissack, the run game coordinator and offensive line coach at Tulane under Sumrall, has been hired as his tight ends coach in Gainesville, according to On3’s Keith Niebuhr.

McKissack was originally the co-offensive coordinator and OL coach at Tulane when he first joined Sumrall’s staff in New Orleans in 2024, moving to a run game coordinator role in 2025. Before his time with the Green Wave, he was on the sidelines with Sumrall at Troy, his alma mater, serving as tight ends coach.

McKissack’s association with Jon Sumrall extends to when the two were part of Mark Stoops’ staff at Kentucky. Sumrall was in his first year as the Wildcats’ inside linebackers coach in 2019, McKissack’s third season as a graduate assistant with the program.

After his stint with Kentucky, McKissack joined the staff at Murray State for two seasons. He was the team’s tight ends and running backs coach. After that, he reunited with Sumrall at Troy in 2022. later joining him at Tulane and now reportedly set to do the same at Florida.
