Jontay Porter issues statement on torn ACL, admits he returned to court before he was cleared

Prior to the 2018-19 season, Mizzou F/C Jontay Porter tore his ACL in a scrimmage against Southern Illinois, causing him to miss the entire year.

Recently, it was revealed that he had torn his ACL again while in Denver, and now he’s explained what happened.

In a statement he issued on Instagram on Wednesday, he said he had successful surgery, but admits that he returned to the court before he was cleared to by doctors:

That’s obviously not a smart move by Porter, who has seemingly now cost himself a shot at the 2019 NBA Draft and may have put his 2019-20 season in jeopardy as well.

He’s at a crossroads in his career with this latest injury, and it’ll be interesting to see what he decides to do from here.
