Jordan Rodgers names 3 schools, including 2 in the SEC, where Arch Manning should consider transferring
The Texas Longhorns beat the Ole Miss Rebels in Week 8 to save their season. Despite this, there may still be trouble in Austin.
Arch Manning completed 60% of his passes (18/30) for 212 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions against the Rebels. He has topped 250 passing yards just once against a Power 4 team this season. To analysts everywhere, including ESPN’s Jordan Rodgers, it feels as Manning’s development has plateaued. The solution? Go somewhere that allows you to showcase your talent.
“Arch has got to be allowed to play quarterback, and he’s really not [allowed to] right now… I feel like a new home for Arch, not the NFL, makes… sense,” Rodgers said on Tuesday’s episode of Get Up. “A place like Ole Miss or LSU… [that] allows you those layup, play-action RPO throws… [and] the ability to attack the field vertically… [or] Miami… [offensive coordinator] Shannon Dawson has a system that allows the quarterback to do a variety of things.”
Rodgers admitted he’s unsure if Manning is capable of doing more than Texas’ staff currently has him doing. However, for him to be taken serious as an NFL prospect, he needs to demonstrate his skills pre-snap.
“The reason Ty Simpson got drafted… [is] because he was a field general. He handled everything pre-snap. He was a technician when it came to progression reads,” Rodgers said. “This offense doesn’t allow [Arch Manning] to slide protections… [he doesn’t] get full field progressions, where they’re attacking the short-to-intermediate area of the field… he needs to be able to show that he can do it all.”
Manning and the Longhorns battle the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Halloween night (7:30 p.m. ET ESPN).
