Josh Heupel praises ‘composed’ first road start for Faizon Brandon

You’ve probably seen or heard this written, posted or spoken about a few times already this season if you’re a Tennessee Vols fan… Faizon Brandon sure didn’t look like a true freshman on Saturday.
He didn’t in his first start (and appearance) of his college career against Furman. And although box score watchers would tell you otherwise, Brandon was crafty and composed in the first road start of his career against Georgia Tech Saturday night. The Vols freshman threw a pair of touchdown passes and committed zero turnovers while leading Tennessee to a 45-24 win and 2-0 start.
“The stat sheet’s not going to be elite,” Vols head coach Josh Heupel said postgame. “I actually really liked the way he played the game. I thought he was composed. He handled himself in situational football pretty well. First game on the road, 18 years old, handled himself well, took care of it. Scrambled, made some plays. There’s a couple things that he’s going to learn from and get better from, but all in all, really good. He had a great look, demeanor. He’s been consistent in that way.”
So far this season Brandon has accounted for 7 touchdowns and zero turnovers. He finished last night’s game 10/21 passing for 148 yards while contributing 5 carries for 22 yards and a few key first down conversions with his legs.
Next up for Tennessee, the Vols travel back home to host the Kennesaw State Owls.
