The meat of the SEC football schedule is about to get started in Week 3 of the 2025 college football schedule.
Perhaps the biggest showdown of the weekend is the matchup between Georgia and Tennessee. The Bulldogs are visiting the Volunteers in a game that could decide the SEC this season. Georgia has looked okay at best, while Tennessee has looked great, especially on offense, to start this season.
Tennessee football coach Josh Heupel spoke glowingly about the Georgia Bulldogs on the SEC teleconference. He said that their appearance stands out explicitly along the line of scrimmage. They are incredibly athletic and have the size to bully teams on both sides.
“I think it starts with a line of scrimmage,” Heupel said. “They’ve done a good job running football and protecting the quarterback. That’s typical of them on the offensive line. They’ve also got outstandingly skilled players on the defensive line. They’re big, athletic, and they’ve done a great job against the run, which is typical. Their second level is athletic; they do a good job under pressure, and they certainly have good skills on the third level in their secondary.”
Despite winning their first 2 games, the Georgia Bulldogs have looked sloppy to start the season. The defense has looked elite, but they have the weapons to blow the top off this Tennessee defense, especially with the Volunteers potentially missing some pieces on defense in Jermod McCoy and Rickey Gibson III.
This could be a make-or-break game for both teams this season because Tennessee has been a team that could jump up and become a dark horse in the SEC. This is the turning point game, and if Tennessee succeeds, it would be huge, especially after Heupel praised Georgia.
