Josh Heupel and Tennessee have a big game ahead of them against Kentucky.

The Vols’ defense will have to bring their A-game to slow down Wildcats’ running back Ray Davis, who has logged 781 yards and 8 touchdowns this season. Tennessee’s run defense has been solid this year, but Heupel knows containing Davis is a different animal.

“You gotta stop him early at the line of scrimmage,” Heupel said in his press conference Monday. “But their offensive line, their tight ends, they’re extremely physical. They do a really good job getting a hat on a hat. We’ve gotta be violent, we’ve gotta be disruptive, we’ve gotta have integrity between all their different personnel groupings, their shifts, their motions, we’ve gotta do a great job communicating and be gapped out. At the end of the day, when you meet the ball carrier you’ve gotta do a great job of tackling too.”

Davis and the Wildcats are coming off a bye week and will be fresh for the game against the Vols. Tennessee is looking to bounce back after the loss to Alabama, but Kentucky is gunning for a signature win.

The Wildcats have home field advantage in the game, which will be huge against a team that has struggled on the road this season.
