The No. 13-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks started their season off in dominant fashion this past Sunday, knocking off the Virginia Tech Hokies by a final score of 24-11.
A massive part of this opening victory for the Gamecocks was, unsurprisingly, the stellar play of sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellars, who went off for 209 combined yards and 2 touchdowns.
Sellers was the subject of some immense hype heading into the 2025 campaign, and that hype is only going to keep growing as Carolina continues deeper into the season, with some already beginning to say that Sellers could become the best player in the nation.
College football analyst Josh Pate falls into this category, as he recently discussed what makes Sellers so special during a recent appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
“I think that he can be the best player in college football,” Pate said. “They (South Carolina) may have the best offensive and defensive players in the entire SEC.”
It’s pretty easy to see why so many people are so high on Sellers in 2025, as the uber-talented sophomore has all the tools to be the next elite dual threat gunslinger to come out of the collegiate ranks.
Whether or not he does become that kind of player remains to be seen, but the talent is certainly there, and that’s already half the battle.
